SEVERN HOSPICE BEREAVEMENT SUITES

Shropshire | Care & Hospice | Interior Design & Build

Shropshire Studios was honoured to deliver the refurbishment of the Bereavement Suite at Severn Hospice, creating a series of carefully considered spaces designed to support families through grief, reflection and healing.

The project focused on transforming internal rooms and outdoor areas into calm, comforting environments that feel safe, nurturing and personal — spaces that feel less clinical and more like a home away from home during deeply emotional moments.

THE GARDEN ROOM

THE RESULT

The completed bereavement suite at Severn Hospice provides a series of calm, nurturing environments designed to support families with care, dignity and compassion. Through sensitive design, bespoke details and a strong connection to nature, the spaces now offer comfort, reassurance and a sense of being held during moments of grief.

The Elephant Room, Garden Room and patio together form a thoughtful, healing environment where families can feel cared for, embraced and at peace.

The patio was designed to extend the bereavement suite into the landscape, offering families a quiet place to sit, reflect and breathe.

Design features include:

  • A bespoke garden pergola connecting the Garden Room to the surrounding woodland

  • Slatted walls that provide privacy while allowing natural light and shadow to move through the space

  • Rustic bunny sculptures inspired by the wildlife of the nearby woods, adding a gentle, whimsical touch

  • A floral‑covered pergola roof that enhances the sense of nature and seasonal change

  • A seamless indoor‑outdoor flow, allowing families to move comfortably between interior and exterior spaces

This outdoor space offers a moment of peace and connection to nature during a deeply emotional time.
