Shropshire Studios was commissioned to reimagine The Kiosk, a much‑loved coastal food destination in Jersey, known for its comforting menu of bacon rolls, burgers, fresh coffee and iconic Jersey milkshakes and ice creams.
While the food offering was already strong, the existing building and external spaces required a fresh, contemporary approach to improve the customer experience and support year‑round use. The design proposal modernises The Kiosk while respecting its coastal setting, local character and surrounding landscape.

The brief was to transform The Kiosk into a modern coastal destination that feels welcoming in all seasons. The design needed to enhance durability against coastal conditions, improve flow and functionality, and create an inviting outdoor environment that encourages longer dwell time and repeat visits.
A strong connection to the surrounding landscape and community use was central to the brief.

DESIGN CONCEPT
The concept repositions The Kiosk as more than a takeaway stop — transforming it into a relaxed coastal hub that blends hospitality, landscape and leisure. The design balances clean, contemporary materials with soft, natural elements inspired by the surrounding coastline.
Every intervention was designed to enhance usability, comfort and visual identity, while maintaining a strong connection to place.
KEY DESIGN FEATURES
Exterior Modernisation
Outdated metal sheet cladding is replaced with NeoTimber horizontal cladding, delivering a clean, modern aesthetic with excellent durability against coastal weather conditions. Planning permission has been successfully secured for these improvements.
Pergola Seating
A new pergola structure introduces sheltered, flexible seating, allowing guests to enjoy the space throughout the year — from sunny beach days to cooler evenings.
Outdoor Service Counter
A bespoke NeoTimber and Corian outdoor service counter creates a robust and visually cohesive extension of the kiosk, supporting efficient service and improved customer flow.
Lighting Strategy
A carefully considered ambient lighting scheme enhances the atmosphere during evening hours, encouraging extended opening times and creating a welcoming glow across the site.
Planters, Dividers and Arches
Bespoke planters and dividers featuring Jersey‑native planting introduce biodiversity and soften the architecture. These elements guide movement and create gentle spatial definition without obstructing views of the kiosk.
Games and Family Area
Integrated storage benches allow games to be stored on site, encouraging families, children from the nearby nursery and beachgoers to use the space as a place to pause, play and connect.
THE RESULT
The reimagined Kiosk becomes a vibrant coastal destination rather than a simple food stop. By weaving biodiversity, durability and thoughtful hospitality design into the scheme, the proposal creates a space that supports community use, tourism and year‑round operation.
The result is a modern, resilient and welcoming hub that enhances the Jersey coastline while celebrating the character that makes The Kiosk so well loved.
