Shropshire Studios was appointed to design and deliver Luna Lounge, the student union bar for Wolverhampton University, creating a vibrant social destination that reflects both the city’s industrial heritage and the energy of its student community.
The project focused on transforming a large open space into a layered, immersive environment — one that feels welcoming, atmospheric and highly social, while supporting day‑to‑night use and student engagement.

DESIGN FOCUS
Inspired by Wolverhampton’s industrial past, the design blends raw, tactile materials with modern lighting and bold visual accents. Rustic timber panelling and exposed brickwork form the foundation of the scheme, grounding the space with warmth and character.
These elements are contrasted with neon accents, Edison bulb lighting and contemporary furniture — creating a dynamic atmosphere that feels energetic, social and unmistakably modern.
Zoning & Spatial Flow
A bespoke rustic divider was designed and built on site to break up the previously open space, creating defined areas where students can sit, pause and gather without losing the openness of the venue.
Lighting & Atmosphere
Layered lighting combines Edison bulbs and neon features to create warmth, depth and visual impact, supporting the transition from daytime use to evening socialising.
Biophilic Elements
Lush planting is integrated throughout the space, softening the industrial materials and introducing a sense of wellbeing by bringing the outdoors in.
Furniture & Finishes
Industrial‑style furniture complements the raw material palette, balancing rugged textures with refined comfort to support extended dwell time.
Social Media Moments
Photo‑worthy focal points were intentionally incorporated throughout the venue, encouraging students to engage with the space, capture moments and share their experience online.

Shropshire Studios delivered Luna Lounge through a full design and build service, managing the project from concept development through to on‑site construction and installation. This ensured design intent was carried through into every detail of the finished space.
THE RESULT
Luna Lounge is now a vibrant, multifaceted social hub that celebrates Wolverhampton’s heritage while embracing contemporary student culture. The finished space encourages connection, relaxation and interaction — offering students an inviting environment that feels authentic, energetic and built for modern campus life.
