Shropshire Studios was appointed to design a premium breakout and co‑working environment within a commercial headquarters, transforming underused space into a destination that supports wellbeing, collaboration and workplace culture.
Located on the top floor, the Sky Lounge is conceived as a retreat above the working day — blending hospitality‑led design with flexible working, social connection and moments of calm, all framed by expansive panoramic views across the surrounding cityscape.

THE BRIEF
The client required a multifunctional breakout space that could support a wide range of uses, including informal meetings, focused work, social interaction and staff wellbeing.
The space needed to feel elevated and aspirational — more akin to a hospitality lounge than a traditional office — while remaining practical, flexible and durable for daily use within a busy headquarters.

DESIGN FOCUS
The Sky Lounge is designed as a workplace destination rather than a secondary space. Instead of relying on enclosed rooms, the layout uses layered zoning, furniture groupings and planting to define areas while maintaining openness and flow.
Natural materials, soft textures and integrated greenery create a calm, welcoming atmosphere, balanced with bolder feature elements that give the space energy and character. The result is an environment that supports both productivity and pause.

Statement Ceiling Design
Natural oak ceiling slats soften the volume of the space, adding warmth, rhythm and a premium hospitality aesthetic.
Acoustic Flooring & Zoning
Zone‑specific acoustic carpet tiles with fluid geometry subtly define different activity areas while improving sound absorption.
Smart Booth Seating
High‑back modular booth seating provides acoustic privacy for focused work and informal meetings.
Hospitality‑Inspired Kitchen & Bar
A fluted timber island incorporates integrated shelving, AV and a barista‑style coffee station, supporting staff events and everyday use.
Central Olive Tree Feature
A sculptural olive tree with circular seating and integrated power creates a natural social anchor and pause point.
Wellness Retreat Zone
An acoustically treated lounge with ambient lighting and curved soft seating supports quiet working, rest and wellbeing.
Play Bar & Games Area
A relaxed social zone with a pool table, games surfaces and plush seating encourages connection and downtime.
Agile Co‑Working Zones
Café tables, modular booths and flexible lounge seating accommodate a variety of working styles throughout the day.
Biophilic Planting & Dividers
Layered planting, green walls and integrated dividers zone the space without enclosure, maintaining openness and visual connection.
Colour & Material Palette
Soft navy, warm terracotta, ivory bouclé and brass detailing are layered over textured carpets and acoustic finishes to create depth and cohesion.
